Fire Razes Down Houses in Raila Village

At least 70 families were on Friday night left homeless after their homes were destroyed in a fire at Raila Village, Mugumoini Ward, Lang'ata.

According to Lang'ata Member of Parliament, Nixon Korir, there were no casualties in the incident.

"The firefighters arrived here in less than 20 minutes and were very swift to put out the fire. It would have been very bad,” Mr Korir stated while at the scene of the fire.

The lawmaker blamed the lack of access to the slums as an obstacle to the firefighters from Nairobi County who artived with two fire engines and an ambulance for those injured.

According to reports, the fire was caused by an electrical fault on one of the power lines in the densely populated informal settlement.

“Moving forward we need to decentralize such equipment so that each constituency has a fire engine, water boozer, and an ambulance,” commented Mr Korir.

The legislator expressed that he would meet area leaders and homeowners to discuss how access roads can be established in all informal settlements in the sub-county.

This comes barely two weeks since a huge inferno left over 6,000 people homeless at Kijiji Village, also in Lang'ata.

The fire claimed the lives of six people leaving several others injured.

Deputy President William Ruto promised that the government would spend Sh70 Million to help residents who lost their homes in the inferno.
