What Jubilee Expects From CJ David Maraga After Raphael Tuju's Letter - Murkomen

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has voiced the expectations from Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga following accusations of bias in the Judiciary.

According to Senator Murkomen, who also serves as the Senate Majority Leader, they are waiting for CJ Maraga to respond with humility and respect on the allegations raised by Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju.

Murkomen further indicated that Maraga had triggered the reactions from Jubilee by addressing a matter that was before Court.

"The CJ opened a Pandora’s box when he issued a presser on a matter which is alive in Court," Senator Murkomen expressed.

In the said presser, CJ Maraga had condemned the government actions that involve disobedience of court orders and urged the government to uphold the constitution and the rule of law.

The strongly-worded letter by Tuju critisized Maraga and the Judiciary due to what he regarded as instances of bias in favour of the National Super Alliance (NASA).

However, former CJ Dr. Willy Mutunga has come to the defense of his successor accusing Tuju of making an unnecessary attack on the entire Judiciary and other institutions under the leadership of CJ Maraga.

"Your letter to CJ Maraga reflects the arrogance of political power and utter disrespect of the institution of the CJ as head of the Judiciary, and the institutions he heads, namely, the JSC, NCAJ, and NCLR," Dr. Mutunga's statement read in part.

He further observed that there were better ways that the Secretary-General would have used to address his grievances to CJ Maraga.

Senator Murkomen, however, responded to Dr. Mutunga indicating that the current actions of the Judiciary were unprecedented noting that during Mutunga's time, the same never happened.
