I'm not Interested in Politics - Ambassador Robert Godec Answers Raila

United States Ambassador Robert Godec has stated that he is not interested in Kenyan politics.

In what looked like a veiled response to NASA leader Raila Odinga, Godec stated that he was only interested in a good working relationship between Kenya and the US.

Mr Godec was speaking in Baringo during a meeting with Governor Stanley Kiptis at his office in Kabarnet.

“We have no reason to meddle with Kenyan politics. Our mission here is to partner with this country to spur development, nothing else," stated the ambassador.

A fortnight ago, Odinga asked Godec and 10 other envoys to keep off Kenyan affairs after they asked the opposition leader to recognise Uhuru Kenyatta as the President.

Odinga accused the envoys of failing to address issues that faced the country such as electoral injustice and warned them to stop meddling in the political affairs.

He further castigated the envoys stating that they had no moral authority to lecture Kenyans on democracy and rule of law after aiding electoral theft in the August polls.

“Stop the hypocrisy. We know you are just interested in trade so you can loot the country and stash the resources in your own countries," he cautioned.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who is also a NASA co-principal, however, differed in opinion with remarks made by Odinga asking envoys to keep off Kenya's politics.

Kalonzo, on his part, stated that the envoy's demands were weighty and the coalition should reconsider them.

“This is a matter we have to deliberate on. I can’t conclusively respond to this now,” Kalonzo stated.

However, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr differed with his party leader on the issue questioning why the envoys were making demands, and at the same time, indicating their intention to broker negotiations.
