Stop Development in NASA Zones - Jubilee MPs Demand

A section of lawmakers has called for the Government to stop allocating funds for development projects in areas perceived to support the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Led by Senate Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki, the leaders who spoke at Nguka ACK Church, Kirinyaga County, asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to allocate the money to various projects earmarked for Jubilee-leaning zones.

Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau stated: “If they don’t support our President, all development projects should not be taken to their areas. You cannot take development to people who abuse you on a daily basis.”

Kindiki claimed that the Government had concentrated development projects in NASA strongholds such as Coast and Western Kenya in a bid to woo residents, and further stated that it was time for them to develop regions where they enjoy great support.

Kindiki also defended the Government's aggressive borrowing, stating that it was necessary to ensure the Jubilee agenda was achieved.

“Those at the helm of power in the government, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, know the plans for the country. The money they are borrowing is to facilitate development where that development will generate finances in the long run,” he explained.

This came after Kenya raised Sh203 Billion in a fresh Eurobond issue last week, with taxpayers set to fork out Sh323 Billion in interest payments during its lifetime of up to 30 years.

Kindiki noted that developed countries such as the United States had also amassed huge debts over the years.

He further maintained that NASA's criticism of the rising national debt was politically motivated.

Other leaders who spoke at the event included Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru, Women Representatives Purity Ngirici (Kirinyaga) and Rahab Mukami (Nyeri) and MPs Kabinga wa Thayu (Mwea), Patrick Maruri (Laikipia West) and Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka).
