Government Announces 800 Job Vacancies for Graduates

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Monday announced 800 new job opportunities for graduates.

The CS stated that the graduates would be absorbed by the Kenya Police Service starting August this year.

This move is aimed at bolstering management in the service as it seeks to hire brilliant minds.

“We want a more elite team to join the service. We are ratcheting the calibre of management in the police,” remarked Matiang'i.

According to the CS, the graduates will join the service in the rank of inspector.

Speaking at the General Service Unit Training College in Embakasi, Matiang'i added that the ministry had stepped up the quality of training of officers to address challenges the service faces.

Some officers, however, expressed uncertainty over the new move since hiring of graduates was suspended in 2005.

At the time, it was alleged that most of those hired at the inspectorate level lacked experience to manage police operations.

“Most of the graduates lacked managerial experience to run the service prompting suspension of the programme.

"We don’t know what has changed that the National Police Service (NPS) wants to reintroduce it,” an officer was quoted by the Standard.
