Businessman Emmanuel Okello Hit With 9 Criminal Charges

Emmanuel Okello, a businessman believed to be former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero's cousin, was on Tuesday arraigned in court and charged with nine criminal counts including land grabbing.

Mr Okello, who has previously been named by Nairobi County boss Mike Sonko as Kidero's relative, was charged alongside businesswoman Elizabeth Waiyego Njagiru

However, the two, who were charged with forging a title deed belonging to city businessman one - Isaac Kamau Ndirangu, denied the charges against them.

Okello and Njangiru were accused of planning to defraud Isaac Kamau of his parcel of land on July 20, 2014, purporting to have genuine instruments of transfer filed by Yunis Mohammed and Associates Advocates.

The two also face other criminal counts among them uttering a forged instrument of transfer for a parcel of land belonging to Wanderi Mark Muingai, a senior land registrar purporting it to be a genuine transfer instrument signed by businessman Isack Ndirangu.

The duo has also been charged alongside Joem Consultants Limited.

According to the filed submissions it is alleged that on July 24, 2017, the two, together with others, presented themselves at the central lands registry, Ardhi House where they procured the registration of land situated at Nyari area within Nairobi County valued at Sh 80 Million by forging a land transfer document of the stated parcel of land.

They also face other criminal counts of obtaining money by false pretense.

It is alleged that the two obtained over Sh100 Million shillings from different people.

The High Court, however, released them on a cash bail of Sh300, 000.

Upon taking his oath of office, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko declared war on land cartels who are responsible for land grabbing across the city.

In September 2017, the county boss named Mr Okello among two other people as the people who have since grabbed land that is meant for the County's use.
