IEBC Records Show Miguna Miguna Hid Details of Canadian Citizenship

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) records released on Thursday showed what former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate, Miguna Miguna, hid from the electoral body while vying as Governor.

The records from IEBC offices indicate that the flamboyant lawyer did not declare his Canadian nationality when seeking the Nairobi seat.

While completing the declaration form as he was running for the Governor seat, Miguna only stated that he was Kenyan.

The records further revealed that the self-declared general of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) used his Passport while filling up the IEBC forms and not his Kenyan ID.

Here are the IEBC records:

The IEBC provided these records after a voter identified as Kingori Nderito wrote a letter questioning how Miguna was cleared to contest for Nairobi seat despite his earlier deportation to Canada on grounds that he is not a Kenyan.

"I kindly and urgently requests that your noble office provide me in the above mentioned, all declaration forms that he submitted in your office while vying as a candidate for the position of Nairobi Governor," he wrote.

This new report provides insight into the questions raised after Miguna's deportation on how he vied for a political seat in Kenya despite Government's claims that he is Canadian.

The Immigration Department justified Miguna's deportation stating that he had acquired the Kenyan citizenship illegally after he automatically lost his Kenyan one.

Here is the letter:

Nonetheless, after appealing the matter in Court, judge Luka Kimaru declared the NRM leader's deportation illegal.

Justice Kimaru also ordered the Director of Immigration Gordon Kihalangwa to deposit the NRM leader's passport at the court.
