Jubilee, NASA Leaders Make 1st Public Appearance since Historic Uhuru-Raila Deal

Jubilee and NASA leaders made their first public appearance together on Sunday in a jointly attended church service at Makadara Friends Church.

Led by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, ODM Nairobi Chairman George Aladwa and Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa, the leaders lauded the successful talks that saw President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga bury their political enmity.

Also in attendance were former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga, former Westlands MP Fred Gumo and Stanley Livondo, with the leaders reiterating that a time had come for the political wrangles in the country to come to an end.

Aladwa, who is also the  Member of Parliament for Makadara, urged other leaders in NASA to follow the historic initiative by their party leader, terming the decision as "timely and welcome".

The leaders exuded optimism that the deal between President Uhuru and Raila would usher in a new chapter in Kenya's political landscape.

CS Wamalwa indicated that they viewed the Sunday service as an opportunity to seek God's divine mercy and grace.

There have been mixed reactions by leaders from both sides of the political divide after the deal that marked the end of a long stand-off following the August General elections was sealed.

On Saturday, ODM deputy party leader Governor Hassan Joho hailed the move by the two leaders, indicating that the time for war was over.

Governor Joho further assured opposition supporters that this was not a blunder as the party's leadership "had always been on the right side of history."

"We shall forever remain committed to electoral justice, historical restitution, compensation, a free and fair society, inclusivity and shared prosperity," Joho reiterated, emphasizing their commitment to the party's ideals.
