Raila Odinga Explains Why President Uhuru Kenyatta Has Been Quiet Since Harambee House Meeting

NASA leader Raila Odinga on Friday stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta has not spoken publicly since their Harambee House pact because they had agreed to wait and see how Kenyans would respond to their deal.

Speaking in Kisii County during a meeting with leaders in the region, Odinga also stated that soon he would make formal trips with the Head of State in a bid to unite the nation.

"We have not spoken publicly since we signed the MoU. We agreed with Mr Kenyatta to wait and see how the country reacts to its contents.

“That’s why the President together with the people's President have not spoken," he revealed.

While addressing a section of Kisii leaders, among them Governor James Ongwae, his deputy Joash Maangi, Senator Sam Ongeri, MCAs and Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, the opposition chief added that Kenya had witnessed bloodshed for long and it had to end.

"We have been seeing blood all the time. From 2007 to date. At least 350 innocent lives have been lost in our country since August 8," he lamented.

This was the first time Odinga was publicly commenting on his meeting with President Kenyatta which drew various reactions from all over the world.

His counterparts in NASA put him on the spot for excluding them in the talks but reports indicate that he explained it was the best move for the entire nation.

ODM Director of Strategy Wafula Buke, on the other hand, clarified that the pact made by the two leaders will only serve a purpose that they happened to share.

"The deal is not a merger of ODM and Jubilee it is only a unity of cooperation. These working relations will have an impact on 2022 politics.

"Some of the agenda that we share in common include national priorities of leading the nation, dealing with corruption, addressing past injustices and crime," the Director stated.

Mr Buke went on to explain that the Orange party had not given up its place as the official Opposition, rather, they had only found a way to gain power ahead of the next General Election.

"Jubilee dominance is evident and we know that. For the playing field to be levelled, one of the parties had to act normal and that is why Raila moved in to make the deal - to create a friendly Opposition.

"Take the illustration of planting a tree and waiting to see the fruits. That is what ODM has done and we will know soon enough what we have planted," Mr Buke told Kenyans.co.ke.
