Kenyans on Twitter were left unimpressed on Tuesday after eight independent columnists with Daily Nation announced their resignation.

Using a trending hashtag, #NMGExodus, Kenyans had no sympathy for the media as they called for the "githeri media" to be overhauled.

Here are some of the comments that were shared.

The columnists are Rasna WarahMuthoni Wanyeki, Fr Gabriel DolanMaina KiaiGabrielle LynchGeorge KegoroNic Cheeseman and Kwamchetsi Makokha.

They cited interference by the Executive arm of government as their primary reason for quitting the paper.

Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was among the first to troll the columnists stating that their resignation was long overdue.

"It is time the Kenyan media recruits a new crop of independent columnists. Our friends were leaning on one side for far too long," he tweeted.

Lawyer Miguna Miguna continued to trend through Tuesday following his drama with the Immigration Department at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday night.

The government attempted to force Miguna onto a Dubai-bound plane but he was rejected by the airline attendants who dubbed him a "hostile" passenger.
