President Uhuru's Tribute to Winnie Mandela That Almost Went Wrong

President Uhuru Kenyatta's tribute message to the fallen anti-apartheid hero Winnie Madikizela Mandela almost went south after a section of social media users accused him of plagiarism.

Uhuru had joined leaders from across the globe in paying tribute to the 81-year-old activist and wife to South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela.

One particular phrase nearly brew controversy after Uhuru stated: "In the end, her courage was rewarded: she lived to see Mandela free; she lived to see her country liberated, and she went on to serve a free South Africa until her death."

A social media user juxtaposed Uhuru's message alongside a similar message appearing in an article by an online publication Cameroon Voice titled "Africa Mourns Courageous Winnie Mandela."

This saw a section of social media users uproar accusing the president of plagiarising his tribute to Winnie.

The screenshot continued to be shared especially on Twitter with a section of netizens hitting out at the President's communication of lacking innovation.

However, this was a wrong accusation since the article was quoting Uhuru's message alongside those of other African leaders.

The image being shared had strategically been snipped since it failed to capture the part where the publication attributed the story to the President's tweet.
