Tension as Another 2Km Fault Line Appears in Naivasha

There has been rising tension at Moi Ndabi area, Naivasha after another two-kilometer fault line emerged.

The fault line has displaced over 16 families a few weeks after a similar occurence cut off the Mai Mahiu-Narok road.

The ground started opening up on Monday with reports indicating that the sinking land had destroyed acres of Irish potatoes, wheat, beans, and maize.

The ongoing heavy rains have contributed to the delicate situation with waters reportedly filling the cracked ground.

Other sources indicate that a section of Marmanet river has been diverted and the transport along Kijabe Road in Moi Ndabi paralyzed.

Residents have been urged to be cautious by the Naivasha Assistant County Commissioner Joseph Opondo and area MCA Gathariki Kamanu to move to safe grounds.

"It’s a 20-foot deep fault line that runs across several agricultural farms. The families were asked to leave primarily for their safety," Kamanu stated.

Inherent geological weaknesses and volcanic forces were alleged to be behind the Mai Mahiu fissure which paralyzed transport along the busy highway.

Movements deep within the Earth’s crust are thought to have resulted in zones of weakness extending to the surface and the resultant tectonic linked movements.

Geologists have recently indicated that in about 50 million years, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia and half of Ethiopia are expected to split from Africa to form a new continent.
