Deputy President William Ruto pleaded with Kenyans for forgiveness, taking a cue from President Uhuru Kenyatta who did the same in his State of The Nation (SoTN) address.
Ruto further declared that he had forgiven all those who had wronged him.
"In keeping with HE's statement, l WSR unreservedly apologise to anyone offended or hurt in anyway by what I have said or done at any time. Find it in your heart to FORGIVE me. I have forgiven ALL those who wronged me. Let's embark on BUILDING the BRIDGES of friendship and UNITY," he tweeted.
Delivering his address in Parliament on Wednesday, President Kenyatta asked Kenyans to forgive him for anything hurtful he said or did during the electioneering period in 2017.
“Since leadership is best done by example, not by extorting, let me do as I have asked you all to do today and say that if there’s anything I said last year that hurt or wounded you, if I damaged the unity of the country in any way, I ask you to forgive me and to join me in repairing that harm,” he stated.

He acknowledged that leaders played a huge role in making the 2017 poll as divisive at it was.
“Last year taught us, taught me… that if we don’t put an end to unrestrained political competition, it will put an end to Kenya,” he stated.
Uhuru also addressed his Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Super Alliance (NASA leader Raila Odinga, praising him for his statesmanship.
"We (Kenyatta and Odinga) did not immediately solve all of Kenya's pressing problems.
"We did not see eye to eye on everything. However, unity does not necessarily mean unaninimity," [caption caption="DP William Ruto with Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale"][/caption]he reiterated.
