KFCB Chair Wants 'Bizzare' Sculpture at JKIA Brought Down

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua on Monday called for a sculpture depicting two wildebeests at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to be brought down.

The sculpture shows one wildebeest mounting the other and is situated around the main terminal at the airport.

Mutua described it as "bizarre and thoughtlessly sexualised" as he declared that it "must change".

"The sexual connotation depicted in this sculpture adds no value to the marketing of Kenya to tourists arriving or leaving JKIA. It's the work of a dirty mind trying cheaply to sell their creativity," he wrote.

He argued that it would not lose any value if it depicted the wildebeests simply grazing in their habitat.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), which runs JKIA, however, told Kenyans.co.ke that they had not received any communication from Mutua or his team.

"We've not received any official communication from KFCB. Once we receive it we'll sit down, discuss and make a decision," a representative of KAA stated.

The statue was brought to Mutua's attention by activist Boniface Mwangi who seemed to be joking.

He tweeted; "Hey @EzekielMutua there is a wildebeest sculpture at JKIA that requires your intervention!" along with an image of the sculpture on Sunday.

In light of Mutua's response, Mwangi accepted a challenge from other users to do a series of photos on the immorality of corruption in Kenya.
