MPs Reveal Plan to Deal with NYS Scandal Culprits

The National Assembly Public Accounts (PAC) Committee now wants anyone linked with the NYS fraud to immediately and totally resign from office.

Led by the chairman and Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, the legislators indicated that stepping down is not enough and all the culprits must be prosecuted.

Speaking at Coast, another section of the MPs including Kiharu legislator Ndindi Nyoro now want those found embezzling public funds executed or hanged as is the case in China.

"From the look of things, this is not a new scandal at all; it's simply a continuation of the old scheme that was hatched way back in 2013," Wandayi noted.

In this view, the committee's chairman termed the continued siphoning of public funds from the institution as "impunity at its worst."

The MP further rubbished the stepping aside of Public Service and Youths Affairs Principal Secretary Lilian Mbogo-Omollo and NYS Director General Richard Ndubai.

"Stepping aside is a strange terminology that is not recognized by law," Wandayi stated while calling for total resignation.

State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu had on Friday announced that the two had stepped aside to allow investigations into the scandal to proceed unencumbered.

The Ugunja legislator vowed that the committee will ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

"Beginning Monday, May 21, 2018, these economic saboteurs have a date with destiny. They must appear before us and explain themselves," he quipped.

"Whether they have stepped aside or not, PAC will continue to discharge its mandate without fear or favor," Wandayi concluded.
