Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo Reveals Major Loopholes in NYS Scandal

Rarieda Member of Parliament (MP) Otiende Amollo has revealed major loopholes in the ongoing investigations of the fresh National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

According to the lawmaker, how government officials have handled the investigations of the ksh9billion scandal is questionable.

Posting on his Twitter, the lawyer noted: "The NYS Saga... I sense something amiss! If it’s corruption, why would DCI investigate to the exclusion of EACC and talk of Prosecution within 36 hours usurping the DPP’s role?

"Are we FIGHTING corruption or CLEARING THE WAY FOR corruption?..just wondering,"the legislator expressed.

On Monday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned at least 40 people in connection with the Sh9 Billion corruption scandal.

According to the DCI Chief George Kinoti, a team of detectives were assembled specifically to take statements in a bid to seal any loopholes before the case goes to court.

“I’m giving them an opportunity to bring what they have, including all records they think will convince our officers that money was paid genuinely. I have assembled enough detectives.

"I want to be clinical because after that we shall meet in court and then, I do not want to hear people saying they were not listened to,” he stated.

However, the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) Commissioners were not included among those probing the suspects involved in the scam.

Additionally, in as much as the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji confirmed that a multi-agency probe was underway, announcing new measures to seal loopholes that have characterized high-level corruption cases in Kenya, he is yet to be able to file an application for the prosecution of the suspects involved in the scandal.
