Governor Hassan Joho Plans Nationwide Tour to Push for Referendum Calls

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has divulged that he will embark on a nationwide tour to push for referendum calls.

Speaking at a Mosque in Mombasa, Joho asserted that he will spearhead massive referendum campaigns across the country to call for constitutional amendments to enable other communities to get an opportunity of clinching the country's top seat.

"This is a conversation we must have, whether the government in power allows it or not, " the County boss affirmed.

According to the ODM Deputy Party leader, the country cannot always be governed by a "few individuals.

"We must amend the constitution to allow it to incorporate the needs of all Kenyans. We all have equal rights," Joho added.

Joho has in the past declared his interest for the presidency on claims that he wants to address issues affecting the coastal people.

According to him, the coastal regions have been marginalised for a long time but the constitutional change will alter that position.

His sentiments come at a time when there has been a push for a referendum by the Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, who claimed that for the Handshake between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta to work there has to be a constitutional change.

However, President Uhuru dismissed claims on a need for a referendum claiming that there is no time for politics right now.

Deputy President William Ruto also rubbished the calls, asserting that the constitution will not be changed just to satisfy the needs of specific people.
