President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Move From Handshake to Hugs [VIDEO]

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Thursday embraced during the National Prayer Day.

The two extended the handshake to the hugs after the keynote speaker, Lord Michael Hastings invited President Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister on the podium and said a prayer for them.

Hastings praised the two leaders for putting their differences aside and coming together to move the country forward.

Lord Michael Hastings stated: "The treasures of a nation are those who do not enjoy the privileges. The treasures of Kenya are those on the margin of freedom. The treasures of this continent are those who are yet to discover the dignity all of us take for granted."

Deputy President William Ruto also expressed how impressed he was with the hug and the milestones the two leaders had taken to ensure unity prevailed in the country.

"We have today graduated the handshake to the hug and it is good to contextualise - God has a way of bringing us together and enriching the wisdom of our leadership- to put aside things that divide us," DP Ruto remarked.

"As we build the bridges of friendship, brotherhood and unity- we must remember to resist hate, refuse disunity and say no to negative ethnicity," he added.

However, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, who was also the first chair of the National Prayer breakfast maintained that the hug should be taken to every village in the country where people are still hurting.

Somalia President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo, who was also a guest at the National Prayer Breakfast stated that it was a great day to pray together for peace and maintained that Alshabaab was a menace not only to his country but to Kenya and Africa as a whole.

"Al Shabaab claims to be Islam but gives Islam a bad name. They don't represent Islam. They kill innocent people who happen to be Muslims," President Farmajo stated.

Kenyans online, however, were not impressed with the hug or the National Prayer breakfast, citing the massive looting of public funds and failure to prosecute the big fish as part of the problems the country is facing.
