30 Laikipia Chiefs to Lose Jobs for Attending Maina Njenga's Meeting

30 Government officials in Laikipia County could be kicked out of office after attending a meeting led by former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho reportedly wrote a letter to the chiefs demanding them to explain why they should not be disciplined or relieved of their duties.

Mr Kibicho is accusing the 30 officials of taking sides in politics by attending a meeting by Mr Njenga who is eyeing the County's senatorial seat in the August polls.

"It has been stated clear that all public servants should not take a side in the elections and should always support the government agenda. You are hereby directed to show cause why ou should not be disciplined or relieved of your duties for attending a political meeting hosted by an aspirant," the letter read.

The county administrators were at Njenga's home in Ol Jororok, Nyandarua county where he feasted with him.

However, Njenga dismissed the warning to the chiefs stating: "The meeting is one of the many I hold with leaders and residents at public barazas to have a feel of challenges facing different areas and so there was nothing secretive about it that would warrant disciplinary action."
