Nyeri College Students Flee Hostels After Terror Threat

On Sunday evening students of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nyeri campus left the institution's hostels after information was circulated that there was a looming terror attack.

The students were forced to seek refuge in friends' houses and lodgings outside the institution.

The police has been camping in the school which neighbors Nyeri County Referral Hospital for two weeks but this did not prevent the students from taking the drastic action.

“We noticed that some ladies were moving out of the hostels and after inquiry they confided that they had information that the campus would be attacked,” one of the students mentioned.

The institution's student leader Edison Mwenda indicated that they were still worried and didn’t feel safe when in the institution.

The Sunday incident was the second in less than a week, a prior threat having been disclosed by a boda boda rider who alleged that terrorists were planning to attack the institution.

However, the Nyeri Central Police Chief Muinde Kioko assured the students that there will be tight security in the area and confirmed that the threat had been addressed and investigations had started.

The police have also started to question students about the threats which extend to Nyeri County Referral Hospital.

On May 29 detectives arrested three terror suspects who were linked to the Al-shabaab in Nyeri.

This was after they intercepted a message about a plan to bomb the town located on the slopes on Mt Kenya
