Governor Anne Waiguru Takes Action Against Nyali MP Mohamed Ali

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Tuesday served Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali alias "Jicho Pevu" with court papers accusing the legislator of making defamatory assertions against the governor.

The suit papers seen by Kenyans.co.ke state that the MP published untruths in a document that he presented before Parliament on Tuesday.

According to the document prepared by Mr Ali, he claimed that Governor Waiguru and nine others are the prime suspects in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

"Once published, these words have been widely circulated on social media. Our instructions are that your words are false and that those words (together with any implication, insinuation or innuendos contained therein) are defamatory of our client in the extreme.

"In their natural and ordinary meaning, or by necessary implication, the words published were meant and were indeed understood to mean that our client is a common thief; an embezzler of public funds; corrupt; a flagrant law-breaker; involved in corruption scandals and unfit to hold public office," the papers read in part.

Through her lawyers, Governor Waiguru demanded a written apology from the legislator within seven days.

The governor also directed Mr Ali to urgently admit to the fault and take responsibility for any damages she may have suffered through the publication.

She further demanded that the legislator refrains from making further defamatory remarks concerning Governor Waiguru.

According to Waiguru, Mr Ali made no attempts to verify the information that he published, hence her stern action.

Others named in the parliamentarian's dossier include DCI boss Ndegwa Muhoro, former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, Health CS Sicily Kariuki, NYS Deputy Director Captain Sam Muchuki, former NYS Director Nelson Githinji, Police Inspector Mike Julius King’oo Muia and businessman Ben Gethi.
