Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa Asserts Her Support for DP William Ruto

Malindi Member of Parliament (MP) Aisha Jumwa has dismissed the alleged plans to remove her from the powerful Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

Responding to reports that ODM wrote to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi seeking guidance on how to remove her from the PSC, Jumwa noted that she will treat all the reports as hearsay as she had not received any official communication from the Speaker.

Addressing the media, Ms Jumwa also affirmed that she has no problem with her party leader Raila Odinga.

However, she exclaimed: "Junet, I am ready for you. Mr Man, you can proceed... I am ready for you. I have no conflict with the party leader."

The letter was drafted by Minority Whip Junet Mohamed who lamented that the "former confidant" of the party leader needed to be removed from the PSC.

"I seek guidance on how to remove and hence replace a commissioner of the PSC…your urgent consideration of this matter will be highly appreciated," the letter signed by Mr Mohamed read in part.

Additionally, Jumwa reiterated that she will support Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid in 2022 as this is her constitutional right.

"I will support Ruto. It's my right...nobody can gag me, " she affirmed.

It is claimed that the alleged plan to remove her from PSC follows her declaration to support DP Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid.

Supporting the MP, Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi mentioned: "As a member of a constitutional commission...Jumwa CAN'T be REMOVED by her party ODM...period."

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen also jumped to her defense mentioning:"The fact that we are even discussing any punishment to be meted on Hon. Aisha Jumwa for having a handshake with DP William Ruto is just simply a travesty. For the record Commissioner, Jumwa is going nowhere. She is protected by the Constitution. We shall defend her rights."
