PS Belio Kipsang Raises Alarm Over Homosexuality in Schools

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang on Thursday announced the government would take the fight against homosexuality in schools to a new level.

According to Kipsang, cases of gayism in schools has increased to an alarming level and the teachers within the schools are in a position to curb its spread.

PS Kipsang advised teachers to refer cases of homosexuality, especially in boarding schools, to the chaplain or counsellors for action.

He emphasised that the government had made an investment in the chaplaincy, guidance and counselling departments for schools and they should, therefore, be utilised.

"But in the first place, the buck stops with us parents. How have we brought up our children? What have we told them about how to take care of themselves?

"Our teachers are capable of noticing some of these cases since they are closer to the student. Teachers should identify behaviour changes, but it is a problem that is societal and we all have to address it" Kipsang stated.

Kipsang added that some of the cases had their roots in the family, urging faith-based organizations and communities to aid in the regulation of media to check its influence on the school goers.

"Were the children molested by relatives, siblings or parents? As they grow up, so of these experiences linger and they start manifesting themselves when the children get to teenage.

"That is why when Kenya Film Classification Board chief executive officer Ezekiel Mutua becomes 'difficult' with people, we are quick to condemn him as a moral policeman.

"But you know we have to be careful with what our children consume in the media as it could be the problem," he stated.
