MP States That Kenyans Deserved to Pay For Their World Cup Trip

An ODM MP has come out to defend their trip to Russia for the World Cup stating that Kenyans should pay every dime for it.

The Homa Bay legislator Peter Kaluma indicated that taxpayers should pay for the trip since they are there as civil servants.

He disclosed that he has been at the tournament since it began and he has enjoyed it so far.

“Even if the government were not to pay for this trip I would pay it but the question is why should I pay while am here as a Member of Parliament from Kenya,” he posed to Citizen TV.

“Here people are asking why we did not use the economy class flight but why should you do that when you are representing the government?” he continued.

He further indicated that they were there to learn how to host international events and they would table a report in Parliament on their return.

The MP is part of about 20 politicians who traveled to Russia to watch the semi-finals and the finals of the world cup.

14 members of the National Assembly and 6 Senators are in Russia at the taxpayers' expense.

They include Siaya Senator James Orengo, Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga , Cleophas Malala ( Kakamega) and Aaron Cheruyiot ( Kericho.)

Some of the politicians asked Kenyans to relax and let them watch the world cup on their behalf.

Parliament defended the trip citing that it was meant for bench marking purposes.

Kenyans have however been angered by the move stating that with such decisions Kenya won’t achieve Vision 2030.
