Horrific Head on Collision Kills 5 in Embu

Five people lost their lives after a head-on collision between a lorry and a van.

The accident which happened on Wednesday at Kibugua area, along Mutunduri-Kianjokoma road in Embu West left three others with severe injuries.

According to reports a Toyota Sienta minivan and the lorry collided at Kibugua area, along the Mutunduri-Kianjokoma road in Embu West.

The passenger vehicle was traveling towards Kianjokoma while the lorry was on its way to Embu town.

The injured were taken to Embu Level Five Hospital.

A recent survey showed that a total of 1,577 people lost their lives in road accidents between January 1 and July 10.

This means that 65 more people have perished in road fatalities this year compared to the same period in 2017.

The latest crash statistics results from the NTSA, pedestrians lead in the number of deaths by 607 compared to 568 in the same period last year.

According to the statistics by the authority, the number of drivers who perished on the roads increased by one to 169.

The number of dead pillion passengers was reported to have increased to 129 from 126 while the pedal cyclist is at 28 compared to 23 last year.

Motorcyclists who succumbed to their injuries were reported to have increased from 295 compared to 258 in 2017.

Those who were seriously injured, passengers took the lead with 1,030 up from 991 while pedestrians number went up to 407 up from 370 in 2017.
