Governor Mike Sonko Denies Tendering Resignation Letter to Nairobi County Speaker

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday released a statement accompanying a letter reportedly sent to the County Speaker Beatrice Elachi indicating he had quit office.

The governor stated that a letter purporting to have originated from his office indicated that he had resigned as the Nairobi County boss.

He refuted the claims made by the letter dated July 23, 2018, terming it a fake document.

"My attention has been drawn to a FAKE letter dated 23rd July addressed to the speaker of the County Assembly ostensibly communicating my resignation as the Governor of Nairobi citing various pedestrian reasons for the same.

"This is to state categorically that the said letter is a forgery and has not emanated from me and is a pack of lies and conjecture and clearly orchestrated by a coalition of cartels including politicians" clarified the governor in a statement.

He stated that he would not choose to resign from office, an act he terms cowardly and would only take the step after consulting through the Jubilee party hierarchy.

"I urge my political nemesis to stop using this archaic tricks and await the coming elections which I will all floor them. We should exhibit mature politics instead of sideshows and useless innuendos which are short-lived," held Governor Sonko.

In the recent days, he faced impeachment threats from sections of City politicians after he made a surprise nomination of deported lawyer Miguna Miguna as his desired choice for the Deputy Governor's job.

He told off critics saying he did not fear being impeached at the time.

Sonko also appeared disturbed in May when the government scaled down his security detail and that accorded to his family members.

Below is a copy of the later that the governor termed a forgery:
