ODM MPs Association With DP William Ruto Costs Them Dearly

A Member of Parliament elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket is in trouble over her remarks after changing tune and associating with Deputy President William Ruto.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa on Tuesday was given a seven-day ultimatum to explain her remarks which the party termed disrespectful.

A letter signed by ODM Chairman John Mbadi and addressed to the Malindi lawmaker demanded she explains why action should not be taken against her for criticising Party leader Raila Odinga over the recent handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"On 15 July 2018, you are quoted by several media outlets as uttering the following words. People should not attack me, they should attack Raila Odinga who forgot all the efforts that the opposition had in store for Kenya and supported the Jubilee Administration," the letter read in part.

"In the same meeting, you are quoted to have said I have no contract with ODM. These pronouncements are tantamount to a declaration of termination of or intention to terminate your membership of the Party," it further remarked.

From the letter, it appears the MP, who has publicly declared her support for the Deputy President in the 2022 Presidential race, has not been attending ODM Parliamentary Group meetings.

Mbadi warned Jumwa on her actions and utterances which he noted amounted to gross misconduct and disrespect of the Party and its leadership.

The letter signed by Mbadi stated, "It is therefore demanded of you to within seven days show cause why on the basis of such misconduct and disrespect a disciplinary action should not be taken against you in accordance with Article 8.4 of the ODM Constitution."

ODM Party did not also leave out Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori following his remarks where he was quoted stating he regretted campaigning for Raila during the 2017 General election.

"You have been quoted by several media houses as declaring in public forums that the coastal people have been betrayed by Raila Odinga and ODM and should look elsewhere to realize some development," a letter addressed to Dori read in part.

"You are further quoted as having said you regret having campaigned for Raila and NASA. These pronouncements are tantamount to termination or intention of termination of your membership of the ODM party," the Msambweni MP was told.

The letter to Jumwa comes barely two months after she was jeered by youth for siding with the deputy president.
