Former West Mugirango MP Henry Obwocha Dies

Former West Mugirango Member of Parliament Henry Obwocha collapsed in his Nairobi home Friday evening and was pronounced dead in Hospital, his family has confirmed.

Obwocha had on Friday afternoon attended a funeral of his sister-in-law in Nyamira and was driven back to Nairobi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta celebrated the life of the late Obwocha stating that his service to the country would be greatly missed.

"It is with deep sadness that I learn of the untimely death of Hon. Henry Obwocha this morning. The late was a distinguished long-serving public servant, lawmaker and accountant whose service to the nation will be greatly missed," the Head of State remarked.

"May God the Almighty grant his family, friends and indeed all Kenyans the grace to bear the loss of our beloved brother," he added.

The late Obwocha has been the Chairman of the Privatisation Commission since April 2015 and had served previously as Minister of Planning and National Development.

Hon. Obwocha was the West Mugirango MP between 1992 and 2007 and briefly acted as Minister for Energy in 2006 as well as a stint as Assistant Minister for Finance.

He was a member of the National Economic and Social Council which drafted Kenya’s Vision 2030.

Hon. Obwocha was a founder member of KCA University and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (Company Secretary) and a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants of the U.K. 

His profile on the Privatisation Commission website states he was a founder member of the KCA University and of the council that drafted Kenya's Vision 2030.
