Uhuru to Visit US President Donald Trump at White House in August

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to visit United States President Donald Trump at the White House on August 27, State House confirmed.

Speaking from State House, Mombasa, acting spokesperson Kanze Dena confirmed the report adding that it would be an official visit

"Kenya is a vital partner of the United States and President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to broaden the strategic partnership based on our shared democratic values and mutual interests.

"The meeting between the two leaders will reaffirm the longstanding relationship between the United States and Kenya as a cornerstone of peace and stability in Africa and the broader Indo-Pacific region.

"President Trump and President Kenyatta will explore ways to bolster trade and investment between the two countries while strengthening security cooperation," a statement from State House read in part.

The Monday statement from State House disappointed a number of Kenyans who had been waiting for President Kenyatta to deliver a statement in person. Some speculated that he would reshuffle the cabinet.

The president's team had earlier in the afternoon alerted members of the press that the president would be giving an address to the nation at 3:30 p. m.

Kanze apologised for the delay and insisted that the president was back at the Mombasa residence from his trip to South Sudan and already at work.

When asked why the president had opted to extend his stay away from the Nairobi presidential residence, Kanze conveyed that he was still inspecting some of the major projects he has established in the county.

"First, reports on the reshuffle of the cabinet is news to me, I am not aware of any such details unless you inform me.

"Second, regarding the president's tour of Mombasa County, please note that he is at work here and he is touring various projects he launched, inspecting them and ensuring that Kenyans are guaranteed of quality services," she explained.
