ODM Party Sends Edwin Sifuna for Training in China

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership has announced a decision to send the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to China.

The party announced on Monday that Sifuna will be in China attending a special training on party leadership.

Sifuna flew out of the country on Monday to attend a training for leaders of African political parties.

"SG Edwin Sifuna left the Country for China this evening as part of the African delegation to attend a training for leaders of Political Parties under the auspices of the Council of African Political Parties. He will return on 17th August 2018," announced the party in a statement.

The announcement put the party on the spot with some of its supporters questioning the justification for training in China given ODM had criticised the use of Chinese political party models in the ruling Jubilee party.

Jubilee leadership has been on the path of having fewer political parties in the country after merging at least 13 parties into one while ODM has been at the forefront advocating for a multiparty state regime.

Sifuna will be part of delegates drawn from 33 African countries that have forty-five political parties under the Council of African Political Parties for the two-weeks-long conference.

East Africa region has the highest number of political parties enlisting in the council with 13 outfits followed by Nothern parts of the continent that have 12 parties.

11 delegates from nine West African countries are also expected to attend the Conference in China.

In the previous conference held in Khartoum in 2017, the council settled to house its headquarters in Sudan with Wynter Kabimba of Zambia being elected the President.
