President Uhuru and Raila Odinga's Joint Nyanza Trip Ruled Out

The entire Nyanza region has been anticipating a visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta jointly with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Last week, sections of the local media reported that the Head of State and the former PM would visit the region in the second week of August, coinciding with the time the country went into the hotly contested 2017 General Election.

The visit had been marked as the maiden trip to the area since April 2017 when the President officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Kisumu brewery.

The high expectations have prompted the Kisumu County administration to clear the air over the intended visit.

Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o, in a statement from through his Press Unit, termed the visit as “rumours” and urged members of the public to refrain from spreading the unconfirmed reports.

Nyong'o noted, "The Office of the Governor has neither been informed nor made aware of any such developments and requests that such rumours should desist forthwith."

All eyes had been set on the two leaders and how the now ruled out trip would turn out given Mr Odinga and the president had struck a unity deal five months ago.

The President had been rumoured to be the chief guest at the upcoming Kisumu County Universal Health Coverage program launch., claims the Governor has refuted.

"The preparation of Kisumu County Universal Health Coverage registration activation has been surrounded by continuous rumours circulating in the media to the effect that HE President Uhuru Kenyatta would be gracing the occasion," he noted rubbishing the reports.

The initiative is in line with the president's Big Four Agenda that prioritizes enhancing food security, healthcare provision, affordable housing and revamping the manufacturing industry.
