James Orengo and 5 Other Senior Lawyers Representing DCJ Philomena Mwilu

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was on Tuesday afternoon arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts following her arrest in connection to corruption charges.

DCJ Mwilu, who was present at the court, was represented by a star-studded team of lawyers led by Senior Counsel James Orengo.

The seasoned lawyer was accompanied by high profile lawyers who have represented various political figures from the Opposition wing of Parliament.

These included veteran lawyer John Khaminwa, Daniel Maanzo who is also MP for Makueni, Ms Julie Soweto, lawyer Okong'o Omogeni, Harun Ndubi and Anthony Havi.

Also present at the court were Suba North Member of Parliament (MP) Millie Odhiambo and his Homa Bay Town counterpart Peter Kaluma who were at hand for consultations with DCJ Mwilu's advocates.

The lawyers pleaded for the consideration of the court arguing that their client had cooperated with law enforcement agents who had been sent to arrest her.

The lawyers assured the judge hearing the case that their client was innocent and asked for a chance to prove the same constitutionally during the next court session.

DCJ Mwilu was be released on a Ksh5 Million bond and was ordered to appear in court on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court judge is accused of receiving bribes masked as a gift during her tenure at the Court of Appeal among other three charges.
