MCAs Spotted Drinking Alcohol Before Storming Beatrice Elachi's Office

Photo of a section of MCAs responsible for the chaos witnessed at Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi’s office on Monday indicated that the leaders could have been under the influence of alcohol.

The photo that surfaced on Monday evening showed the six county legislators at a restaurant enjoying bottles of White Cap and Jack Daniels hours before storming the office of the Speaker.

Among the six lawmakers was nominated MCA Mary Njambi, who was at the forefront of the attempted eviction of Elachi from her office.

Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu Karanja, who lodged the motion to impeach the speaker, was also part of the group but is seen taking tea unlike his colleagues.

The three female representatives under the influence, later on, went and caused a scene at Elachi’ office where they engaged in a shouting contest and reportedly destroyed some properties.

The drama that went on for some time saw the female legislators push, shove and shout in a bid to intimidate Elachi to leave.

The angered leaders asserted they would not leave even after the speaker allegedly pepper sprayed them.

Ametuwekea pilipili but hatujali. Lazima aende! (She has pepper sprayed us but we do not care. She must leave)," the declared.

The climax of the whole drama involved the attempt of Ms. Njambi to pull the table and remove the Speaker’s chair before she was stopped by Elachi’s personal assistant James Mwangi.

The ward representatives on Thursday last week impeached Elachi over claims of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The Nairobi County Assembly speaker moved to court on the same day and obtained a temporary order from the High Court that reinstated her.

The motion presented to the County Assembly by Kiragu saw 103 MCAs vote in support with two voting against while two others abstained.
