More than a week after Sharon Otieno was found dead in Kodera forest, a musical duo has penned an emotional tribute for the slain Rongo university student.
The track, 5 mins and 25 seconds long, was written and performed by Kenyan Artistes Lameck Boy and Wandiga with heartbreaking lyrics in Swahili.
"Moyo unaniuma, Mola akulaze, hatutaonana tena daima, bye bye Sharon (My heart is breaking, May the Lord grant you peace, we will never see you again)," the chorus mourns the student.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Lameck confessed that he didn't know Sharon personally; "but I had the feeling to write the song with my friend Wandiga as it has deeply hurt us thinking on how the family and friends miss her."
Taking the perspective of a person who was familiar to the deceased, the artistes expressed their remorse that Sharon did not get to accomplish her goals in life.
"Najua ulikuwa malengo yako, yule mtu ameyakatiza, mbona hukuyatimiza ndoto zako? (I know you had dreams but someone cut them short. Why didn't you accomplish your goals?" states the first verse of the tribute song.
The singers condole with the family of Sharon and her friends terming her passing a great loss to all who knew her.
The forlorn piece transitions into a spoken word where Wandiga goes on to reassure that Sharon's memory will live on in the lives she touched.
"Kwa hakika umetutoka kimwili lakini kiroho tuko pamoja. Kukatisha ndoto ya mwenye ndoto inakufaidi nini? (You have left us physically, but you are still with us in spirit. What do you have to gain by cutting short her life)?
"Ona vile familia, na Kenya mzima imehuzunika. Poleni wote walioguzwa na kifo hiki (Look at how the family and the entire country is saddened by her death. Sorry to all those who have been affected by her death)," they sing.
Lameck disclosed that the song took nearly four hours to write and produce.
"Personally I feel bad for this incident. May the Lord Rest her soul in peace, and help her Family, comfort them and cover them with the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen," he stated.
Sharon's family has vowed not to bury her until her killers are brought to book. However, her unborn baby will be laid to rest on Thursday.
On his part, Migori Governor Okoth Obado on Wednesday maintained that he was not involved in the murder of the 26-year-old university student who was seven months pregnant before her demise.
