100 Kg Heroin Seized in DCI Drug Bust in Kilifi

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) seized nearly 100 Kgs of a substance believed to be heroin following a raid on a house in Kikambala estate, Kilifi on Thursday.

The street value of the drugs is estimated to be around Sh300 million.

The substance was packed in 92 large sachets and stored in two suitcases and a gunny bag.

The DCI revealed that the raid was conducted after they received a tip-off from the public.

No arrests were made with the security agency promising to go after various suspects.

"Detectives have already commenced investigations with the aim of bringing the suspects to book," they wrote in a statement.

Earlier this year, Coast regional Commissioner Bernard Leparmarai accused police in Kilifi County of protecting drug barons and peddlers.

He vowed to weed out the corrupt officers, blaming them for leaking information to peddlers on plans to raid their premises.

“I have heard enough stories from Kilifi county and this has to stop. You cannot frustrate the community when they are trying to assist the government in fighting drugs.

"We want these people arrested and I will camp in these areas and work with the community to bring this issue to an end,” he stated.
