Sharon Otieno's Parents Melida Auma & Douglas Otieno Speak After Migori Governor Okoth Obado's Hearing

Slain university student Sharon Otieno's mother Melida Auma was present during Migori Governor Okoth Obado's hearing at a Milimani court over her daughter's gruesome murder.

Heavy with emotion, Auma broke down in court, tears willfully streaming down her face. At times she seemed aloof clearly distraught over the tragic turn of events that robbed her of her child.

Speaking after the hearing which saw Obado remanded to Industrial Area prison awaiting his bond application hearing, Ms Auma recalled the scenes in the courtroom adding that she was yet to come to terms with the death of her daughter.

"I felt tormented and wondered how he could just be involved in the brutal killing of my beloved child. I asked myself endless questions on just how he could have betrayed my child who loved him a lot.

“I felt scared. How could the man in front of me lead to the death of my heavily pregnant daughter and her unborn child? This is unexplainable, it is too much for me and I do not want to talk about it,” Ms Auma was quoted by Nation.

During the interview, a flood of emotions took over as she wept uncontrollably prompting the premature end of the interaction.

Beside her was the husband, Douglas Otieno who remained speechless during the trial adamantly battling demons within himself.

“This is a devil’s doing. So many things ran through my mind when I saw the governor in front of me. I felt evil things inside me and only asked God to take control of me.

“How could some of her killers still afford to be free, three weeks after they brutally murdered my daughter who was a jewel to me. I felt bitter,” he opened up.

Through the grief, Otieno clung to the hope of justice prevailing lauding detectives for the job they had done so far.

“The officers have tried. I have no complaints. The detectives also told me they arrested another aide to the governor,” he added.

Keen to face the governor, Sharon's parents travelled overnight from their Magare home in Homa Bay County.

Obado pleaded 'not guilty' to charges of murdering Sharon and his bond application will be heard on Tuesday 25.
