Bomet MPs Walk Out of Event Officiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta

Disgruntled Members of Parliament (MPs) walked out of an event officiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Sotik, Bomet County on Tuesday.

The President was in Sotik to launch a new KCC dairy processing plant.

The lawmakers from Bomet County, however, felt disrespected after not being given a chance to address the public in the entire course of proceedings.

The group proceeded to storm out of the event and was followed by many of their supporters.

They accused Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso of totally ignoring them during Uhuru's trip which also saw him open the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) conference.

The MPs later addressed the public at a parallel event in Bomet town.

The LREB conference brings together Governors, leaders and business-people from the 14 counties around Lake Victoria seeking to forge stronger economic ties.

The counties are Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Nandi, Kisumu and Kericho.

Governors of these counties commissioned Deloitte and Touche’ to develop the Lake Region Economic Blueprint launched by Uhuru in 2015.

A secretariat based in Kisumu was also established to co-ordinate various projects.
