Gunshots Erupt as Kisumu County Lawmakers Fight [VIDEO]

Kisumu County Assembly session on Tuesday afternoon was marred with chaos and gunshots after a fight between the MCAs and the sergeant at arms, broke out.

Eric Agola, who is the temporary speaker, decided to adjourn the session, a move that was not received well by a section of the ward representatives.

The MCAs termed the act by Agola as illegal leading to a confrontation between the lawmakers and the speaker.

Sergeant-at-arms George Amayo, was caught in the scuffle when he tried to intervene in the matter.

The angered legislators turned on Amayo where they threatened to beat him up, which provoked him to pull out his gun and fire in the air in an attempt to disperse the rowdy leaders.

Officers from the nearby police station interceded in the matter and manged to restore order after being forced to retreat to the sentry box at the assembly's entrance.

A crowd that had gathered outside the assembly attempted to rough up the sergeant-at-arms who was being shielded by the police.

Amayo was later escorted to the police station where he was disarmed.

The law makers involved in the chaos were also taken to the police station where they recorded statements.

This is the second time a fight ensued at the assembly, after the representatives came to blow in June over claims of a plan to impeach Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
