President Uhuru Kenyatta Receives Special Recognition Award From The Sikh Community

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday received the Special Recognition Award from the Sikh Community.

The Head of State was awarded in recognition of his contribution towards peace in the country and beyond.

The award, one of those presented during the Sikh Awards 2018, was handed over to the President by Navdeep Singh at State House.

The 9th Annual Sikh Awards Ceremony were held at the heart of the Nairobi National Park - Ivory Burning Site.

This was the first time the awards were being held in Africa.

The award ceremony sought to recognize the pivotal contributions made by the Sikh community across a variety of fields, from business, charity, education, entertainment, media, professional services, selfless service, and sport, with winners selected across the globe from Asia, USA, Australia, Europe, Africa, Canada and the Middle East. 

On his part, President Kenyatta, on Sunday, flagged off the inaugural KQ non-stop flight from JKIA to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

"It is historic for Kenya's aviation sector to witness the inaugural direct flight between Nairobi and New York finally take off. The direct air link between our country and the US present great opportunities in trade, tourism and people-to-people relations," he declared.

The Kenyan delegation was headed by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, Kenya Airways Chief Executive Sebastian Mikosz and Chairman Michael Joseph.

CNN journalist Richard Quest, innovators Shirlene Nafula and Evans Wadongo were also on board for the 15-hour flight.

The Kenyan innovators were selected for their creativity and innovativeness in the areas of biotechnology and solar energy.
