Dennis Itumbi Reacts After Jacque Maribe is Granted Bail

Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communications Secretary Dennis Itumbi on Tuesday expressed his gratitute after Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe was granted bail.

Itumbi, who has been vocal about his support for Maribe during the trial period, took to social media minutes after Maribe was freed conditionally.

"Asanteni kwa maombi. (Thank you for the prayers)"

"Whether prayers were loud or silent, God has answered the prayers. God favour each of you. May Justice like many waters flow," he wrote on his Facebook.

Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Justice James Wakiaga freed Maribe on a cash bail of Ksh1million with three sureties of similar amount or alternatively to deposit a bond of Ksh2million with a surety of similar amount.

He ruled that the prosecution did not prove that the journalist is a flight risk or is likely to abscond court appearance.

However, her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Jowie was denied bail and directed to remain in prison.

Prior to the ruling, Itumbi had penned a long post on his social media anticipating a favourable ruling for the news anchor.

"May she get bail so that like she told me yesterday, she can try and end the pain of tens of remandees who are locked up for years because they could not afford bail amounts ranging from Shs. 3,000 to 10,000" he stated.

He added that upon leaving jail, Jacque had promised to assist pay bail as granted by Judges for those who needed it most.
