Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui Sacks Sports, Youth and Gender CEC Halima Gababa

Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui sacked the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Sports, Youth and Gender Halima Gababa over gross misconduct.

The move came after angry youth petitioned the County Assembly to investigate the conduct of Gababa claiming she had violated the law.

She was accused of failing to diligently execute the functions and exercise authority of her office as demanded by the law.

Governor Kinyanjui appointed Trade, Cooperatives, and Tourism CEC Peter Ketyenya to act in that position.

The cabinet member had been suspended for 60 days pending the investigations, which found her guilty.

Investigations were done and upon completion, have revealed that Gababa was liable for gross misconduct,” read a statement to newsrooms.

The youth greeted news of her sacking with jubilation and called on Kinyanjui to appoint a new CEC “who has the interest of the youth at heart.

We’re happy Governor Kinyanjui has finally listened to the cries of the youth. We, however, urge him not to repeat the blunder and instead nominate a youth-friendly person to that position,” said a resident who was only identified as Kimani.

The youth said that Gababa had ignored one of their own when he visited her office to inquire on a forthcoming volleyball tournament.

They also raised concerns that youth in the region were not given at least 30 per cent of the tenders as per the law.

The executive has denied the youths tenders meant for them in her docket and that is why we are appealing for the assembly to investigate her conduct,” read the petition.
