Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua on Friday responded to a proposal to partner with Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana as his running mate during the 2022 presidential race.
Taking to her social media, Karua stated that she had a lot of respect for the governor, however, she maintained that women were capable of being holding senior positions other than just deputizing.
"I have a lot of respect for Governor Kibwana and his leadership ability but kindly note that deputy is not a woman's first name," she replied to a user who had pledged allegiance to support the duo in the upcoming polls.
The netizen, Paul Muiruri, had opined, "If and when you (Kibwana) decide to run this country as the next president with Martha Karua as your able deputy, you are assured of my vote by 4 AM of the voting day.
"Kenyans will support your presidency bid overwhelmingly Governor. You lead as others watch!"
Using the example of a basic family unit, Karua further explained that a father and a mother were both at the helm, none lesser than the other.
"My dad and mum co-chair the family and to be honest women do more for the family without demanding any title," she conveyed.
On the issue of running for the presidency, Kibwana had earlier maintained that he would retire after completing his second term as governor.
He, however, hinted that he could be persuaded to run for the seat on one condition.
"If you write me a letter saying that 75 per cent of you think it is a good idea and that you will support, then I will take it seriously," he told the delegates at the Public Finance and Tax 2018 Conference in November.
