DP William Ruto Urged to Fulfill Ksh5 Million Promise to School

Lake Bogoria Girls’ High School in Baringo South has been forced to turn a bus shade into a classroom after Deputy President (DP) William Ruto backtracked on his promise.

The school urged the DP to fulfill his promise to fund them with Ksh5 million so they can expand facilities.

In 2018, the DP donated a bus to the school and an iron-sheet garage was built to house it.

However, the school has now turned the bus shade into a classroom in order to accommodate the high number of students enrolled in Form One.

According to the school Principal Jean Ngaiwa, the school was facing hurdles in managing the growing population.

“We used to admit only 80 Form 1s but today have over 200. So during weekdays, we have to convert the bus shade into a classroom for the excess number of students,” Ngaiwa revealed.

The principal also disclosed that some new students were using the dining hall as classrooms forcing them to take their meals under trees, on corridors or seated on logs.

The school also doubles up as a refugee centre for children fleeing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages.

Ngaiwa appealed to well-wishers and the ministry of education to intervene. She also appealed to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to post more teachers to ensure quality learning.

Furthermore, the Principal called upon the area MP Charles Kamuren to help the school through the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF).

In 2018, the government ordered a 100 per cent transition to secondary schools. Teachers’ unions, however, complained about inadequate facilities, warning that appropriate measures were needed to protect learning.
