Arsenal Hosts Match in Honour of Carilton David Maina Who Was Allegedly Shot By Police

England's Arsenal FC is set to honour a Kenyan who was reportedly shot by the police during the Tuesday night match against Cardiff City.

According to the programme, the match between Arsenal Vs Cardiff will be used to pay tribute to Carilton David Maina who was killed by police in Kibera in December.

Eulogizing the ardent Arsenal supporter, the club noted, "We were very sad to hear the recent death of Arsenal Kenya member, Carilton David Maina - aged just 22.

"Born in Africa's biggest slum Kibera, Carilton excelled academically, winning a scholarship to study engineering in Leeds which enabled him to visit his beloved Emirates Stadium to see his heroes," Arsenal added.

The club noted how Maina adored the club and used to watch every match he could.

"He was also a talented player, recently a youth goalkeeper for Gor Mahia FC and was also a TEDx presenter, role model, future leader and was loved by all. Our thoughts are with Carilton's family and friends," stated the team.

The Leeds University student was killed on Dec 22 in Kibra in unclear circumstances drawing protests in the neighbourhood.

Maina was said to have been walking home in Kibera, Laini Saba area after watching a football match when he was killed.

He was reportedly in the company of three other friends although he was the only one who was shot.

"He had become such an epitome of hope in Kibera. Not so many people from the slums get a chance to study abroad," Diana Bwari, a friend to the deceased was quoted.

Maina was home for the December holidays and was due to fly back to England, where he was a student at Leeds University taking a course in Electronic engineering.
