379 Illegal Herders Arrested in Laikipia After the Murder of British Investor Tristan Voorspuy

Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery on Monday stated that 379 illegal grazers in Laikipia County were arrested following the murder of a wealthy British rancher on Saturday.

Addressing the press, Mr Nkaissery divulged that police conducted an operation in the area securing 16 ranches that have been a target for the illegal herders.

"As I speak to you the police have already arrested 379 illegal grazers who are being processed in accordance with the law," Nkaissery mentioned.

This came a day after the former British soldier and co-owner of Sossian ranch, Tristan Voorspuy, was shot dead while assessing the damage done by the grazers who invaded his property on Friday.

The CS assured that those responsible for the brutal murder of Voorspuy would be smoked out.

The speedy operation that saw 379 herders apprehended happened at a time when the British Government lodged a complaint to Kenya over the security of its citizens.

In a statement, British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey urged the government to beef up security in the volatile area.

"I continue to urge the Kenyan authorities to take all necessary steps urgently to restore law and order, and to protect life and property in the area," the Ambassador said.

The death of Voorspur also prompted Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Ndegwa Muhoro to visit the volatile area where he launched investigations.

Apart from the private ranch, the foreign businessman ran a tour company called Offbeat Safaris Ltd.

Those apprehended are set to face the law following the murder of the father of two.
