Central Organisations of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has reminisced the years he used to repair phones for the founding President Jomo Kenyatta.
Quoting a section in his recently published book Fame, Force and Fury, The Star revealed that it was at the time in the 1970s that he met President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was still a teenager then.
The book further noted that Atwoli visited the president's home in Gatundu in order to carry out the duties.
It is, however, not yet clear whether Atwoli did the job for a living or just personal favour to Kenyatta.
The outspoken leader further divulged in the autobiography that he did not endorse Uhuru's 2002 and 2013 presidential bids revealing that he appeared "green" in both instances.
“In 2002, when Moi endorsed Uhuru for the presidency, Atwoli had rejected him, saying he was a greenhorn.
"He maintained that the country needed experienced leaders and more so, those who understood the plight of Kenyans,” wrote the authors of the book.
He also divulged that in 2014, he advised Uhuru to drop his deputy William Ruto after his close allies began getting implicated in corruption scandals.
The one which stood out at the time, Atwoli disclosed in the book, was "the Ksh791 million National Youth Service scandal where his aide Farouk Kibet had been implicated.”
He only later supported the president after the 2013 elections in order to push for the empowerment of workers.
Atwoli launched his autobiography in a Nairobi hotel on Labour Day.
