4 Things Boinnet Wants from CORD Before Monday Protests

Inspector General (IG) of Police Joseph Boinnet has presented four demands to the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) before its demonstrations slated for Monday and Thursday next week.

In a statement issued on Sunday afternoon, Boinnet acknowledged receipt of a notification from the Coalition for countrywide protests on the two days.

The IG, however, directed CORD to provide information about:

1. The time the demonstrations will commence and end, giving the specific routes to be used.

2. An approximate number of demonstrators expected to participate.

3. The expected destinations and venue of public meetings if any.

4. The expected exit routes to be used after the demonstrations.

According to the press release, the Coalition is expected to give the requested information to Police Commanders of every County the protests will be held.

In addition, police asked the Opposition to use marshals who will ensure demonstrators maintain order and do not harass motorists and pedestrians.

“The coalition has been requested to ensure that demonstrators do not engage in any form of violence, damage any property including road furniture,” read the statement in part.

The IG assured that police officers would endeavor to provide any required security but warned against protestors attacking security agents.

Last week, CORD issued a notification to move to the streets on Monday and Thursday citing unwillingness from the government to adhere to dialogue calls on resolving the IEBC stalemate.
