The tumultuous relationship between Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has officially ended.
This is after the Wiper leader announced, on Monday night during a leaders’ meeting at Makindu, that the 2017 pre-election coalition pact with Kibwana’s Muungano Party had ultimately served its time.
“There is now no political relationship between Wiper and Muungano. The coalition agreement was made for one year and it has lapsed,” Kalonzo declared.
According to Kalonzo, the split should not be misconstrued and that the parting of ways with Kibwana was part of reorganising the Wiper Party and strengthening it ahead of 2022.
“I do not want you to read politics in it because the reality on the ground is that the agreement has lapsed.
“Wiper is a national party and our mission in the few years to the next election is to grow it all over the country. Our aim is to take over the leadership of this country come 2022,” the former VP stated.
According to Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo, who also attended the Monday meeting, the move will have major effects in the Makueni county assembly leadership.
“It will mean that leadership of certain committees will be reorganised again since initially Muungano and Wiper shared the committee leadership as part of their negotiated democracy,” Maanzo told The Star.
Recently, Kibwana has been seen to have command of the assembly despite most MCAs being elected on a Wiper ticket.
It is believed that through speaker Douglas Mbilu, Kibwana has made sure that all the crucial committees are headed by his men.
