Notorious Thug Steals Phones, Borrows From Mshwari, Timiza, Stima Sacco and Fuliza

A man in Nyeri was arraigned in court to answer charges where he was accused of stealing mobile phones from revelers and using them to borrow money from digital financial lenders.

Nelson Kamau appeared before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo on Friday and was charged with three counts of stealing and impersonation.

The court was told the on April 18, 2019 Kamau stole an Iphone valued at Ksh80,000 from Fredrick Omondi at the Tenth Street bar in Nyeri town.

The accused charged with withdrawing Ksh43,300 from Omondi’s M-Pesa account.

He then borrowed a loan of Ksh90,000 from Stima Sacco and another loan of Ksh11,000 from Timiza mobile application.

The court heard that he further took a Fuliza loan of Ksh11,500 using Omondi’s mobile phone.

The second charge read that the accused stole a Nokia Phone valued at Ksh28,000 from One Bernard Wanjohi.

On this phone he went further to withdraw Ksh8,000 from Wanjohis Mpesa account and went on to take two loans of Ksh2,000 and Ksh3,500 from M-Shwari and Fuliza accounts, respectively.

The accused faced a third charge of impersonation after he was found with an ID with his photo registered under the name John Gachuki Ndirangu, which was not his name.

He was released on a Ksh1 million bond by the court after denying the charges.

The pre-trial will be held on June 18, 2019.
