President Uhuru Kenyatta disclosed his childhood dreams when he was probed by a curious youth, at an event in Nairobi on Thursday.
The question caught the president off guard as he took a few minutes to let the question sink in before responding heartily, amid laughs and applause from the audience.
Uhuru admitted that he had dreams, just like any other young child.
“When I was young, I dreamt of success. I dreamt of making it big in life. And furthermore, I would be lying if I didn't say I wanted to be like my father,” Uhuru opened up.
Fate and luck seem to have been on Uhuru’s side as he followed in his father's (Jomo Kenyatta) footsteps to become a president and to live in State House, where he resided when he was a child.
In the years between 1979 and 1980, Uhuru got a job at KCB Bank, Kipande House on Kenyatta Avenue where he was earning a monthly salary of Ksh 600.
While living in the United States in the 1980s, Uhuru worked as a waiter at Burger King, a Chain restaurant in the US.
At one point, he went into farming full time and started importing horticulture aided by a pick up he had purchased.
The President was speaking on Thursday at the official launch of MasterCard Foundation Young Africa Works program which aims to help 30 million young people across Africa secure dignified and fulfilling work by 2030
At the event, he informed the public that his administration was taking bold action to eliminate the barriers that prevent young people from reaching their full potential and opening up opportunities for gainful employment.
